Designing Digital Scrapbook Components Banner

Week 3 - Mat, Frames, Banners, and More

Homework Assignment -

  • Create at least one mat and one frame that are coordinated with the other components you've made so far. You can make your mats and frames as simple or as fancy as you like.
  • Create at least two banners: one with a straight edge and one using the torn paper technique.
  • Create at least one piece of vellum, either plain or embossed.
  • Optional: Assemble a sample layout using any combination of components you've made thus far. Be sure to use some of the components you created for this lesson.

The daisy set - Used the daisy background overlayed on a yellow for the paper here, thinking that a blue daisy paper would be too much. Added a copper frame I had made for another class as it seemed to fit here (my style if anyone wants it, let me know). The mat and frame at the left were made using a gradient and EC3.1/jiggle, then added an innerbeveled snowflake at the corners of the frame.
The plaid set - Just plain white paper, used the same torn paper, flipped and slightly deformed, and added the star frame as it seemed to fit here.
Another note - Both of these sets look like they coordinate well enough to mix and match.

The Letters Background set - The background is just a mottled green background I already had, enlarged to fit the layout. The scalloped banner was made using a mask I made for the first LVS Scrapbooking class. Tried my hand as burning the edges of a torn mat, then recolored a different shaped trial to green, resized it and made it into the green vellum. Added JASC block tubes to the letters frame, and used this page's background (web page) for another star tag, which seems to coordinate with this set.
The leaf set - Used a leaf brush and the confetti brush preset to make the background paper. The vellum is a fairly plain corner of that paper with opacity reduced. Tried my hand at a more realistic cardboard banner after I got a good corrugated banner (Thanks to the instructions in the lesson.), using a brown paper I had made a while back. Used a different brush to cutout the leaf frame corners, added JASC leaf tubes to the corner of the plaid frame, and added the brown torn paper at the bottom.
Red, White and Blue Set

Red, White and Blue Set - Just had to do one, since I had so many components in these colors. I borrowed the blue plaid and star frame from the PSE set, added the torn paper corner, all the slides and tags I had already made, another star envelope with a plain white star tag, and a striped mat. The vellum is the striped mat, masked and opacity reduced. The background paper was a red gradient, warp brushed, and used the same for the red frame. The decoration on the red frame is the stitched effect taught in week four's second LVS scrapbooking class (since I am so late posting my week 3 here and I was playing already with that lesson). Sort of combining lessons here.

Personal note - As you can see I've been playing a lot and I have several other sets started, a rose colored one, a purple set, an orange set with sunshine yellow cloud papers and tags, etc. If I get time to do the pages and layouts, I will post them too before the end of class. No downloads this week, but will try to get them all together for the full page kits at the end of class.
