hellen5's Digital Art HomeworkWeek 3 - WHAT HELPS TO MAKE A GOOD PAINTINGASSIGNMENT: I'd like you to use the picture below and begin your painting. You can do anything you want regarding color, adding some flowers or a background (remember that Horizon Line!). Actually, a good painting has an uneven number of objects, i.e., one, three, five, etc., so you should add one more thing to this. Remember to "anchor" the coffeepot by adding shadow and line to keep it from appearing as though it's floating above the table. Let's see what you can do! You can reduce the image and add other objects. It would be wonderful if you could just use this as an example to sketch your very own coffeepot. If not, just duplicate the picture (CTL D) and practice sketching over it to get the flow of your strokes. You can flip the picture around or change where the light source is coming from. You'll find that by making long sketch strokes you will be able to maintain the contour line(s) more easily. You could also use Paint in Object Mode, sketch over the picture, then just copy/paste onto a new image. Use your imagination and most of all ENJOY YOURSELF!. I know I'm being redundant about you being comfortable, relaxed and having fun, but that's at least 50% of creating a wonderful, loose painting and one that isn't OVER-WORKED. Here is the starting sketch, followed by my start at coloring and shading the pot and adding the orange, then finishing the pot and redrawing the cup and coloring and shading it. The fourth image is as I posted it in the message boards (click on it to see full sized image). Per Instructor's comments and suggestions on my first posting, I've added another highlight, shadows and a different background.
Well, I tried. It does look better with the highlights and shadows added and I changed the background.
