hellen5's Digital Art HomeworkWeek 4 - INTRODUCTION TO COLORS AND MORE
Here's my cloud play first. ASSIGNMENT: I've done a series of foliage and your assignment this week will be to create some examples of foliage, including tree trunks. After creating the main trunk and first branches, you can build on them by creating "Ys" in different directions, or you can create the main trunk, add the foliage, then intersperse the branches by broken lines throughout the foliage. Unless a tree is the MAIN subject matter and close to the artist, the foliage should be loose and less detailed. I cheated on the tree shape and used a photo (Microsoft clip art photo), but I know that even well-known artists will sometimes use photos as starting points. Second image was as posted for comments (click on it to see full sized image). The background colors and general layout was taken from a Microsoft clip art photo of a sunset I liked. I'm taking the Terragen class too and we are doing sunsets right now, so I was looking at photos of sunsets for ideas there. The third image is with the leaves, foliage, and some bushes in the foreground added (this was before the instructor's comments), and played with the clouds a little (click on it to see full sized image). Per Instructor's Comments on first posted image I've made some changes.
I'm not sure I got the tree dark enough or the highlights in the right place (they are there), but it does look better. Also darkened the bushes and the "rocks" in the foreground and play with the sky some more. I really like those colors and how the play together. My Digital Art Class Index My LVS Index
