Luberta Vina (Baldridge) Epling, born in 1926. (Picture colorized by Leigh at Leigh's Designs .) Mama hated her middle name and it wasn't until I started doing genealogy and got a copy of her birth certificate that I found out what it was. Helen

Mama with her grandparents, Joseph and Mona Bales, in 1956 or 1957. Dad's parents died within two years of each other and our family drove from Sacramento, California, to Wichita, Kansas, both times so our parents could be there for the funerals. Mama's family lived there too, and one time we stayed with Great Grandma and Grandpa Bales. During those earlier years, I don't remember Mama ever going out in public in pants, she always wore a dress or skirt and top of some kind. Helen

This is the last picture I remember being taken of Mama and all four of us kids in the summer of 1965, shortly before Richard went into the Army. Counter clockwise from top-left, Robert, Linda, Helen, and Richard, with Mama in the middle. Yes, it was summer, but I was proud of my Mohair Sweater and we were out in Mama's garden. And Mama had her hair in pin curls, because in those later years she worked at the Post Office on the night shift, so when she was home, she was either sleeping or working in her garden. Helen

This is the last picture I remember being taken of Mama and Daddy together. I believe it was taken during the time my husband, Bennie, and I were in the process of moving from Hamilton AFB, California, to Lackland AFB, Texas, in November of 1971. Mama died of cancer and a brain tumor in April 1972, just a month short of her 45th birthday. Helen

NOTE: Linda scanned and sent me these pictures. I could not find my picture albums, I think they are in the store room, buried under a ton of stuff that desparately needs going through (when I have more time). Thanks Linda.
